It’s almost time to debut the new and improved Winston blog!
Hi friends and furbabies!
So we are into July now and things are coming along nicely with our blog relaunch preparations. The logo is nearly finished. As I am making it myself it is taking a little bit longer than I would have liked as I am constantly fiddling around with different features to make the pictures look the way I want them to.
I am constantly seeing things on social media, TV and on dog websites that I want to post about… it’s driving me mad! But there is one topic I needed to post about as soon as I saw it and that ‘rent-a-pet’. Yes, there is a new company is London that allows you to rent a dog for as little as an hour for a fee. To be honest I find it pretty disgusting!
There are many forms of animal cruelty in the world – physical abuse, neglect, puppy farming, malnutrition the list is huge. However, this one really takes the biscuit.
I am one of those crazy reality soap fans. I can spend hours watching things like The Hills, Jersey Shore, The Real Housewives and a British one called The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE). In a recent episode of TOWIE a member of the cast walked in with a beautiful chocolate Labrador who she said was ‘renting’ for the day.
Before that particular scene had even finished I was on Google trying to find out what the hell that is all about. Apparently it originates in Japan, business is booming over there. It spread to America, although the company was shut down for legal – and hopefully moral -reasons. But now, the same American company has set up shop in London.
Can you imagine the emotional stress a dog would go through being passed from owner to owner sometimes multiple times in a day never mind a week? It is a recipe for severe separation anxiety and I, for one, do not agree with it at all.
When researching this topic I was unable to find the actual website for FlexPetz – apparently it is a dog fencing company now – however from reading articles online I have discovered that their reasoning behind the company is to give people the chance to see if having a dog is for them, or if they really want a dog but their career or living situation doesn’t allow for it then this is the chance for them to have a dog when it suits them.
In theory it is a good idea, but in the practical sense it is just cruel to the animals involved. I can think of something much better to allow a family, singleton, workaholic or just a general dog enthusiast to spend time with some fantastic, loving and kind fur-babies – volunteer at a dog re-homing center.
There are plenty of dogs in the country who would benefit from a fun day out with a family that just don’t have the capabilities to have a dog live with them. And guess what, it’s free!
My friends in America have you ever heard of this? My friends anywhere, does this happen where you are?
p.s I plan to have the blog up and running in it’s fine new form for the first week in August and guess what! It’s Winston’s first birthday on the 5th!! I do hope you’ll all come along and help us celebrate in true doggy style!
Hi fellow doggy folks!
I am finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, next week I complete two outcomes, two essays and a presentation and then I am done! For good, forever.
So I think now is a good time to let you all know that I have already thought about the theme for the new WinstonBlog and what features I want to include.
Since updating the blog is a bit of a pain at the moment I will be posting my progress on twitter and I will announce the relaunch date on twitter too…
